The Bar Convent is the oldest living convent in England, established in 1686 and foremost in education for 300 years. It offers a variety of award winning facilities for the general public, business and historians alike.

Located in an elegant building close to the historic centre of York, the Bar Convent provides an excellent setting and ambience in which to enjoy a conference, business meeting or informal gathering.

The Bar Convent is ideal for charity and business meetings / presentations, offering up to date technology and just as important, a warm and personal welcome. There is always a member of staff to show you the room, explain equipment and ensure the catering arrangements are correct on the day.

Our meeting rooms are described below but we are always happy to discuss your requirements over the telephone.

The Bedingfield room, the largest (13m x 6.5m) seats approx 70 theatre style and 35 boardroom. It is fully equipped with an LCD Projector, TV/Video, PA system, 35mm projector, Hearing Loop - all controlled from a lectern located touch screen.

The Gascoigne room (6.5m x 6.5m) is located directly off the Bedingfield room and is often used as a break-out room for larger groups. It can also be hired separately and seats 30 theatre style or 20 boardroom. A screen, OHP, TV/Video and flip charts are all available in this room.

The Aspinall room (6.5m x 5.5m) is next to the Aspinall room and all three are connected by internal doors. It seats 25 theatre style or 16 boardroom. A screen, OHP, TV/Video and flip charts are all available in this room,

We also have a small Boardroom which seats 10 around an elegant table. For special functions the beautifully ornate entrance hall can be hired for receptions, dinners, award events, and presentations.
