Yarm ? |
| Conferences, meetings, and events will enjoy Yarm’s cobble-edged High Street lined by Georgian buildings and its closeness to excellent country house hotels. Bordered by the River Tees (now barraged to excellent effect) the town was once a port, features an 18th century market hall, and was where, in the George and Dragon Inn in 1820, the Stockton and Darlington Railway was initially promoted in public. Gift shops, designer boutiques, restaurants, pubs (some with riverside beer gardens) and coffee shops contribute to Yarm’s smart but laid-back feel. Venues include several excellent specialist conference hotels within easy reach of Yarm (as well as others in Eaglescliffe), including one (Crathorne) that is spectacularly Edwardian and set in woodlands near to the North York Moors. Also look out for a choice of culture/heritage settings.
Proximity to the shopping and entertainment options of Middlesbrough and Stockton, to Captain Cook country, to the water-sports options along the Tees, and to a range of cultural attractions (e.g. Institute of Modern Art and the Dorman Museum, Middlesbrough; Preston Hall Museum, Stockton – local heritage), are further plus points. Conference delegates can reach Yarm easily using the A1(M), A19, and A66, by train, and via flights into the airports at Durham Tees Valley and Newcastle.
In conclusion: Yarm is a much under-appreciated meetings destination that offers smart professional venues close to a memorably historic town that is both attractive to view and a pleasure to visit.
