Oban ? |
| Conferences, meetings, and events will enjoy Oban as the ‘Gateway to the Isles’ (Mull, Tiree, Islay, Barra, South Uist, etc.), and as a West Highland resort where attractions include the fishing port and views of the bay, yachting, the scene from McCaig’s Tower (Colosseum-styled folly), Oban Distillery, and traditional Scottish entertainment. Venues include a good choice of hotels, some of then branded, with others located in nearby countryside, and also culture/heritage settings.
Proximity to mountain landscapes (e.g. Glencoe), a fractured coastline (and water pursuits), to the Western Isles (including Iona, burial place of 48 Kings of Scotland; Staffa, where Fingal’s Cave was the inspiration for Mendelssohn’s ‘Hebrides’ overture; and Mull, setting for spectacular cliff scenery and castles), are further plus points. Conference delegates can reach Oban using the A82/A85, by train, and through flights into the airports at Glasgow and Prestwick.
In conclusion: this is a traditional Scottish resort destination but one than combines heritage, island visits and adventure pursuits to provide splendid ‘meetcentive’ experiences. |
