| Why
Irvine ? |
Conferences, meetings, and events in ‘The Land O’Burns’ (as Ayrshire is known) will enjoy Irvine for its associations with the poet (he lived here 1781-2), whilst the town’s Burns Club is among the world’s most venerable (est. 1820). This was once the port for Glasgow, but today is best known for its views across the Firth of Clyde, mild gulf stream climate, excellent choice of nearby golf courses, water-sports options and major leisure centre. Venues include branded and independent hotels as well as culture/heritage settings, and nearby are the soccer stadium facilities at Kilmarnock.
Proximity to Prestwick airport, to cosmopolitan Glasgow, to Ayrshire beaches and marinas (and resort of Ayr), to the timeless coastal town of Largs, and to countless castles (among them Culzean, Dean, and Kelburn), are further plus points. Conference delegates can reach Irvine easily via the M74 (and cross-country roads) or M77, by train from Glasgow, and using fights into the airports of Glasgow or Prestwick.
In conclusion: think of Irvine as a ‘Scotland in miniature’-type of destination - plenty of scope for Scottishness (piping, foods, whiskies, island-hopping, ceilidhs, atmosphere), plus adventure pursuits and memorable heritage visits.
