Romania? |
|
Promoted officially as a meetings country ‘full of superlatives and surprises’, the new EU partner is a destination celebrated for its ethnic diversity, preserved cultural inheritance, spas and resorts, authentic medieval towns, popular wines, cruises on the Danube, and opportunities to spot wildlife (notably wolves, eagles and brown bears), and also for the MICE facilities in Bucharest. The capital, often compared architecturally with Paris, is now a magnet for international hotel brands (for example, 20 of these offer over 4000 rooms in total), and its Palace of the Parliament (the world’s second largest building) offers a 2200 sq.m. auditorium.
Very much an undiscovered location, Romania is likely to become additionally successful in the region of Transylvania for the everlasting theme of Dracula, for its wellness incentives, Black Sea resorts, cultural repertoire (Sibiu was designated European Capital of Culture for 2007), outdoor pursuits in the Carpathian Mountains, and for the enjoyment of nature-spotting at eco-venues in the unspoilt Danube delta (a UNESCO Biosphere reserve and home to 25m birds of 320 species, as well as 6-metre-long sturgeon).
