Promoted officially for its ‘MICE facilities in the sun’, the so-called ‘plus factors’ of Italy for conferences and meetings include its regional wines and cuisines, heritage and cultural attractions, appealing weather, and the warmth of the Italian personality. Over 100,000 meetings are registered annually, involving 20m delegates.
The choice of locations includes purpose-built congress centres, historic venues (e.g. villas, castles, convents), three- to five-star hotels, as well as one-off settings such as theatres, universities, town halls etc. Pride of place conference cities include Bologna, Florence, Genoa, Milan, Rome, Turin and Venice, but further conference-minded locations include Bolzano, Orvieto, Sorrento, Trieste, and Vicenza. Among attractive more rural regions with one-off specialist conference hotels are Tuscany, Trentino, and Umbria, and many recommend Sardinia and Sicily as excellent conference and incentive islands.
Access via international flights is easy to all parts of the country.
