| Why
Helsinki ? |
| Conferences, meetings, and events will enjoy the capital of Finland’s sense of design style (try the ‘design walk’), together with a host of cultural attractions. Muse-see sights (why not take the tram?) include the neo-Classical buildings in stately Senate Square, the impressively dominating cathedral, the colourful market square, the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Suomenlinna sea fortress, and not least, the fine Ateneum art gallery. Venues include around 30 three- to five-star hotels (most are specialist conference properties), culture/heritage settings, and key auditoria such as Finlandia Hall (seating to 1700; total exhibition space of 6000 sq.m.), Paasitorni Conference Centre (800; 1000); Hartwall Arena (12,000; 2350); and the Marina Congress Centre (700; 1630).
Proximity to the cities of Espoo (garden city) and Vantaa (Science Centre), to offshore maritime features best enjoyed by waterbus, and to nearby unspoiled countryside (e.g. Nuuksio National Park, and to countless lakes ideal for angling and watersports), are further plus points. Conference delegates can reach Helsinki easily using international and domestic flights (airport 20km), and via international train services or ferry.
In conclusion: think of Helsinki as very much a Baltic experience (and with more than a hint of St. Petersburg), where the successful blend is that of culture, nature and the sea, vibrant and appealing year-round, and good value as a world stage destination.
